Do not apologise for the gap
A long sorry makes the silence the main topic. A one-line acknowledgement and an immediate change of subject works far better.
Give them something to answer
- Reference something that happened since you last spoke
- Return to a question that never got answered
- Make a light joke about the timing, then move on
One attempt is enough
If the revival does not get a reply, let it go. A second attempt rarely changes the answer.
