Flirting over text without trying too hard

Tension, teasing and timing — the three things that make a chat feel alive.

Flirting in text is mostly about contrast. A little tease against a little warmth. A confident line followed by a real question.

It reads badly when it is one note all the way through, in either direction.

Tease, then reassure

A tease creates a small gap, and warmth closes it. One without the other is either cold or flat. Do both in the same conversation and it feels like play.

Use specifics, not compliments

Good looking is a compliment anyone could give. Noticing how someone talks about their job, or the fact that they clearly took that photo themselves, is a compliment only you could give.

Escalate slowly and check the response

Turn the energy up one step at a time and watch what comes back. Matched energy means keep going. Shorter or slower replies mean step back down. This is not a rule for politeness, it is how you avoid making a conversation you both wanted feel weird.

Hard stops

If they change the subject, go quiet or say they are not comfortable, the flirting is done. Change tone immediately and do not bring it up again.

Examples

Flirting examples

Written as examples. Your real suggestions come from your own conversation.

Tease

You seem dangerously confident for someone who has not seen my playlist yet.

Coach note

Light challenge that invites them to play along.

Warm

That is a genuinely good answer and now I have to think of a better question.

Coach note

Gives real credit, keeps the momentum going.

Questions

Good to know

Length and initiative. Longer replies and questions coming back at you are the two clearest signals.

Never get stuck on what to say again.

Paste your chat, pick a tone, send the line that sounds like you.
