How to reply to a compliment.
Most people deflect compliments, which quietly ends the exchange. Accepting one and giving something back keeps it going.
Why deflecting costs you
"Nah, not really" asks them to argue with you. A simple thank you, plus a line of your own, turns a compliment into a conversation.
If a compliment makes you uncomfortable, you are allowed to say so directly.
What you can say
