Hinge openers when the profile gives you nothing.
A sparse profile is not a dead end. Photos carry more information than prompts do, and one honest question beats a clever line.
Where the material actually is
Backgrounds, clothing, the setting of a photo, the city, the choice of what to show at all. Even the absence of prompts is a thing you can play with lightly.
What you can say
- 1Ask about a place in one of the photos.
- 2Make a light guess and let them correct you.
- 3Ask a small either/or question.
- 4Name the empty profile with humour, gently.
Example messages
Photo two — is that the coast road? I've been trying to work out where it is.
Mysterious profile. I'm going to guess you're either a chef or very good at pretending.
Two questions, low stakes: coffee or tea, and early or late?
You've given me almost nothing to work with, so: best thing you did this month?
What to avoid
- ✕Complaining that the profile is empty.
- ✕Defaulting to "hey" because there is nothing to read.
When to leave the conversation alone
If two genuine questions get nothing back, the profile was not the problem. Move on.
