Timing beats wording
The best moment is after two good back-and-forths, while the chat still has momentum. Waiting until you have run out of topics makes the ask feel like a last resort.
Be specific
We should hang out sometime puts the work on them. A place, a day and a rough time turns it into a yes or no, which is much easier to answer.
Keep it short and low pressure

- An explicit no-worries option if the day does not work
If they say no
